Position description:

The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks a post-doctoral research associate to carry out research on NIR spectroscopy and machine learning/ artificial intelligence to characterize sugar and lipids in Biomass. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Mohammed Kamruzzaman (https://abe.illinois.edu/directory/mkamruz1) and Dr. Vijay Singh (https://abe.illinois.edu/directory/vsingh).
The position is a 12-month appointment with renewal of up to three years, depending on performance and funding availability. The salary will be commensurate with experience. This position will also be benefits-eligible and offers 24 paid vacation days annually; any unused balance is non-compensable upon separation.

Required qualifications:
• Candidate must have a PhD in an engineering discipline, including agricultural,
biological, chemical, environmental, electrical, computer and mechanical.
• Experience in spectroscopy, machine learning/ artificial intelligence.
• Advanced programming skills in Python & Matlab
• Experience in developing decision tools such as GUI
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills
• Ability to write grant proposals and high-quality scientific papers
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work independently and diligently to meet deadlines.
